Our Staff

""Head Teacher – Mr. John Moore

Education for children attending primary schools should be fun, interesting and memorable. If a school expects great learning of its children, it must provide them with fantastic teaching, a well-designed curriculum, skilled and timely interventions and the time and encouragement to persevere.

I believe that all children, given the right environment, effort and attitude, have the ability to learn and enjoy success in their lives. I also believe that we should value a child’s artistic and sporting achievements as much as we might celebrate their successes in English and Maths. Over the last few years, Sherborne has become the most over-subscribed primary school in the North Cotwolds and I truly feel that our school is a very special – perhaps even unique – place for children to learn, flourish and grow.

"" Deputy Headteacher – Owls Teacher – Mrs. Flora Ellis

I started teaching in 2009, after bringing up my two children and working as a volunteer in their school. I saw how important education was and how much they valued learning. Before teaching I ran a fair trade shop and worked as a freelance printmaker as well as other various jobs including a fascinating placement at The Natural History Museum. At home, I like to play the guitar, go for walks and collect curious books.

I have an honours degree in Fine Art and postgraduate certificates in education, humanities and professional studies. I am a primary mathematics specialist teacher (MaST) and also a Gloucestershire Educational Leader of Mathematics. I have written and led four successive Erasmus+ projects and firmly encourage school European partnerships.

I am tremendously enthusiastic about the entire curriculum, enjoying running around a wintery playing field as much as experimenting in science or writing poetry. My class might wonder how I get so interested in rocks and numbers, but a fascination in the world is what keeps me enthusiastic and this fascination and the desire to learn more, is what I aim to pass on to my class.

“The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as that every child should be given the wish to learn”John Lubbock

""Fox Class Teacher – Mr Duncan Lambourne

After 20 years of working in retail, I took the decision to train to become a teacher in 2018. My decision to join this wonderful, rewarding profession was based on seeing the joy of learning that skilled, dedicated educational professionals were able to develop within our first child.

My training was completed in a SEN school, and I am constantly striving to provide the right educational resources to allow children with SEN to make the same educational progress as their peers. I am also an advocate for using technology in the classroom to support and enhance learning and better prepare our children for their digital future.

I have not been at Sherborne long, but recognise and share the desire of all staff to work our hardest to support the children in the school to flourish educationally, emotionally and socially in our incredible setting.

I am currently on the board of governors and I am completing training to become the school’s Mental Health Champion.

""Hedgehog Class Teacher – Miss Amber Fletcher

Ever since leaving secondary school, I have always had an interest in childcare and education. I spent two years completing an Early Years Level 3 course which allowed me to learn more about the Early Years Foundation Stage and early childhood development. I then undertook my degree in Education at the University of Gloucestershire. This allowed me to explore the role, impact and background of education. During my degree, I was fortunate to undertake a placement in a forest school. I then continued my studies by carrying out a PGCE. Since then I have taught in a variety of schools and year groups across the county. I am a very creative person and I enjoy bringing this into my teaching. I am passionate about music, art, phonics and outdoor learning.

""Learning Intervention and Midday Supervisor – Miss Michelle Williams

When I left primary school, I always knew I wanted to work with children. I left college at the age of 17 and moved to London to be a nanny. I lived with a wonderful family for 2 1/2 years.

I then moved to Stow on the Wold and became a nanny to three beautiful girls; I was with them until they left primary school. After that I became a teaching assistant at a local primary school, I was there for 22 years.

I have only been at Sherborne Primary School since September 2022. I absolutely love it here and most of all making a difference in supporting and improving the children’s learning.

I enjoy the outdoors and love nothing more than going for long country walks with my dog.

""Learning Intervention and Midday Supervisor – Miss India Denmead

From an early age, I always wanted to work with children. After completing my A-Levels, I studied for an honours degree in Early Childhood Studies and graduated at Oxford Brookes University. Whilst studying, I undertook a three-year placement at a primary school in Gloucestershire and, after graduating, worked at a primary school in Oxfordshire. I am passionate in helping children with their learning so they can reach their full potential. In my spare time, I particularly enjoy foreign travel, photography, musical theatre, baking and long country walks.

""Learning Intervention – Mrs Nicola Aslett
