From the beginning, we provide opportunities to learn maths in a practical way by creating activities that are \u2018real\u2019 and which will form concrete experiences that become the foundations for further learning. As the children gain an understanding of our number system they become more confident and can then apply this knowledge to problem-solving activities.<\/p>\n<p>We are very lucky to have a Maths Specialist Teacher in Mrs. Ellis and are one of the only schools in the area who can say this. She is also currently training as a Gloucestershire Educational Leader of mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>The latest ideas and methods have already helped to inspire the other staff and the children\u2019s love of mathematics.<\/p>\n\t<p><strong><u>Number and Place Value<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Year 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Count to and across 100, forwards and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1,
