Extra Curricular Activities
We may be a small school, but we think big. Our children have the opportunity to take part in a very broad range of activities throughout the school year. A taste of the opportunities on offer are provided below.
Sports
We are proud to participate in a wide range of intra- and inter-school sports events and matches throughout the year, from football to archery, hockey to swimming. As well as matches we also offer after-school sports clubs to all pupils to give everyone a change to participate and enjoy different sports.
Our sports provision has earned us the silver sports mark for 2024-2025 and we have proudly attained either the bronze or silver mark in sports for the past eight years.
We have a history of sporting success at Sherborne, where each year children go through to county finals to represent the North Cotswolds in athletics and cross-country. In recent years, the school has been represented at county level in archery, mountain biking and hockey too.
Annually, Years 5 & 6 have a residential at Viney Hill Adventure Centre in the Forest of Dean, where they participate in a range of activities from: canoeing, kayaking, raft building, tunnelling, archery, crate-stack, low-ropes and hiking.
Benefitting from our amazing local woods, we regularly hold orienteering events as a school, as well as an annual orienteering event with other schools in the area. These events are often linked to special times of the year, such as Easter, or when we have visitors from abroad.
Every child in every year group has the opportunity to participate in off-site sporting events over the school year. The school is registered with two sports clusters, and aims to take part in as many events as possible.
Finally, all children in Years 2 and 3 take part in swimming lessons. This provision is extended to any children in Years 4-6 who need a little more time in order to become water confident.
Wildlife Club
We are extremely proud of our record in the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust School Quiz. In 2025, we were crowned North Cotswolds Champions for the second year running, and followed this up by winning the County Championship Final. Our record in the quiz speaks for itself. Since our first win in 2012, we have been North Cotswolds’ champions eight times (there were no competitions 2020-2022) and have reached the overall final three times, coming, 3rd, 2nd and, in 2014 and 2025, 1st!
As well as encouraging a love of wildlife with our outdoor learning provision there is an after school Wildlife Club where children can learn more about our local wildlife through hands-on learning thanks to our location on the edge of the beautiful National Trust Forest and incredible parent volunteers.
