Our school is a Victorian building, opened in 1868. The old Headmaster’s house is now the school office and music/intervention space. Upstairs will soon house our new library, meeting room, and staff room.
The main area of the school has three dedicated classrooms: an L-shaped room for Years R, 1 & 2, that contains a kitchen area and which opens out onto a dedicated playground; a central room for Year 3 & 4, and a larger classroom for Years 5 & 6. The latter two rooms are separated by a sliding screen (dating from 1910), which means we can transform the space into one very large room for whole school events. Currently, we use the largest classroom for worship and for our breakfast club, but we are busy developing alternative spaces for these purposes.
There are two toilet blocks inside and facilities for the disabled in the main building.
Our outdoor space is really special. We have a large field with football goals, a trim trail, and a play stack of nets and logs. On the field, we also have an orchard and a wildlife area, with a willow dome and a willow tunnel.
Further areas of grass contain two vegetable beds, a well-equipped garden shed, more wild areas, and a ‘quiet area’ garden, planted with flowers surrounding benches. In this space is also a gazebo for outdoor learning, for shelter, and as an extra play area.
We have two playgrounds: a front playground which is marked out for netball and is big enough for all the children to use in wet weather, and a smaller playground at the rear of the school, where the infants play and access their continuous provision.
Additionally, we have a secure pond area with hedgehog homes, cherry trees and an abundance of pond life.
Finally, we have two further areas – a beautiful, newly-developed sensory garden, accessible to all, and a peace garden, which is reserved for Year 6 pupils.
